August blues

I saw a tweet the other day that said "Summer 2011 should get a ticket...for speeding" - and that's exactly how I feel.

As soon as August hits, I always feel like summer is over. Never mind that there is still 4 weeks of vacation, but something about that elusive 8th Month always makes me feel a little sad. The days are a little shorter, the temperature a little cooler and the people a little less relaxed. 

August is a harsh reminder that September is right around the corner, and let's face it, no one likes September. I shouldn't be complaining as I still have lots planned, including a concert and trip to NYC, but I can't help but feel a little bit bummed.

To the bestest and all others born in August, I apologize for the anti-August rant, don't take it personally!

Some diversions and updates on my life

I feel like Twitter has somehow replaced my blogging addiction. I find that I tend to blog most when I don't feel that I "have to" - which is exactly how I've been feeling the last number of months. Every time I log onto Blogger (and I do so almost daily) I look at the date of my last post and cringe because it's been so long.


Then I get that familiar feeling of "I really need to blog" - and promptly go and do something else. The weird thing is that I've really missed this place while at the same time ignoring it. I've also noticed my followers dwindle and my comments go down to almost nothing. While it does make me a little sad, I do not blame anyone in the slightest seeing as I haven't been keeping my end of the bargain and commenting on all of your wonderful blogs either. 


I've become quite interested in historical fiction recently, and am currently about half way through my second book. Philippa Gregory is a historian of British History, more specifically the Tudor period and Elizabethan England. The Bestest lent me "The Other Boleyn Girl" when I was in Europe, and I loved it! I'm now reading the 3rd in her series ("The Virgin's Lover") and may very well keep going from there. 


I don't have a job for the summer, but I'm finding that I'm actually pretty busy and the days are already going by way too fast for my liking. July is shaping up to be a very busy month for me. Among other things I have 3  small trips planned, a girlfriend from Germany in town for a few days and a 60th Birthday celebration for my mom!

A little bit of random

Its finally June! And it occured to me this morning that I leave for Europe 3 weeks from today! Which is both awesome and terrifying because I have so much to do before I leave.

The weather is celebrating the arrival of June accordingly - about 12 degrees and cloudy. Go figure.

I got excited last night because Air Canada finally updated their movie schedules for the flights so I've already made a list of movies I want to watch on the flight to Dublin. My number 1 pick is "The Reader" but I'm also considering "Gran Torino" They're also showing "Bride Wars" and "He's just not that into you" both of which I've seen, but also good choices.

Any suggestions?

Also, on the more random side, the trailer for "New Moon" (the 2nd Twilight book) was released last night - and I have to admit I'm impressed. I loved the books but hated the first movie, but this preview looks promising. I was never a "Jacob" fan in the books, but after this preview - I might be coming around a little.

Sunshine and short sleeves!

I love love love this time of year when the weather begins to warm up. Everyone seems so happy and is smiling all the time. I've stated numerous times before that sunshine makes me happy, and it really is true.

I'm currently on Ella alone day 7, and I have to admit I've gotten used to being alone. It may actually be a slight adjustment for me when my mom comes home in a few days. The infamous cat and I have learned to cope with each other, although I am still being woken up at 6:30 each morning.

The downside to this beautiful weather is that I don't have time to enjoy it this weekend. The paper from hell, otherwise known as my German Detective Fiction essay, is due on wednesday and I am currently only on page 7 of 15-20. I figure that roughly half way through isn't *too* bad. I find that I get distracted very easily when I am writing a paper. I'll be motivated for about an hour and a half, and then I'll lose it again for about 3 hours. My goal was to get to 10 pages today, and seeing as it is currently only 3:20pm, that might still happen. I find I work best late at night for some reason.

Some friends are coming over this evening to play Wii, so presuming that I am not worn out from bowling and mario kart, I will probably plant myself at the table and work for a few hours after they leave.

Ireland (Pt. 2)

I'm still in the planning stages, but I'm already so excited and I have a list of things I want to see. Mainly: Trinity College, Dublin Castle, Christchurch Cathedral, Temple Bar, the Guiness Brewery and there's an old market street full of antique dealers.

I found out today that a friend of mine just booked her ticket to Dublin last night to visit some family there for a couple of weeks, and it turns out we're going to be there at the same time! Its a very random coincidence, but it will be very cool if we meet up for a drink or dinner or something.

My father was in town for the long weekend, so I met him for lunch yesterday and we discussed our trip to Romania which I'm also very excited for. All in all I really can't wait for summer this year.

I'm going to Ireland!!

Its official! I have the booking confirmations in my hand (well email actually) but either way, its booked. My mom and I tossed around the idea of flying to Dublin about a month ago, but then before we booked the tickets, Air Canada raised their prices by over $400! So we gave up on that idea and continued reseraching other websites and airlines trying to find an affordable alternative to flying directly to Frankfurt. For some reason Frankfurt seems to be the most expensive destination in Europe.

On saturday I was browsing the internet and some little voice in my head told me to go to the Air Canada website and check out the Dublin fares again, and OMG they were low again! About $60 more than originally, but I'm not complaining!

So in the end we're flying to Dublin for less then half the price of a ticket to Frankfurt. I've never been to Ireland so needless to say I'm very excited. If anyone has any specific recomendations on Dublin, I'd love to hear them!
