That phrase has never meant as much to me as it does tonight. I've officially completed my first week of full-time work! This marks a bit of a milestone in my life, because up until 5pm tonight, the most hours I'd ever worked in one week was about 35 and that was retail during the Christmas season a few years back.
My official title is Sales Support Co-Ordinator. I'm not exactly sure what that entails yet, so far it has been a lot of spreadsheets and data entry. It's a completely new experience for me to work in an office environment, but so far it has been very positive.
One thing I have learned though, when a potential employer asks you about a specific computer program (say Excel for example) and how proficient you are in it - sometimes they really mean it. I've used excel and can manage to enter data no problem, so when she asked me I smiled and said I could use it really well no problem.
WELL
This is not the Excel I had in mind. These are complicated spreadsheets with specific formatting that I have to keep up. Needless to say the Paperclip Helper has become my new best friend. I may also spend part of my weekend learning all I can about Excel.
In other news: I had tentative plans with ShyBoy to go to the mall and help him pick out a birthday gift for his mom, but I had a feeling that wasn't going to happen so I didn't even bother mentioning it.
It seems my intuition was right. Yesterday he tells me that he has to work later today and therefore can't go to the mall. I'll admit I was a bit dissapointed, but what could I say.
THEN
out of nowhere, he goes "if ya want we could see a movie tomorrow instead"
Talk about forward. I think my favourite ShyBoy is making some progress.
I really want to see Inglorious Basterds (the new Tarantino/Brad Pitt flick) so that's where we're going, in less than an hour I should add.
He just texted me and told me he picked up the tickets already to make sure it wouldn't be sold out. Can I tell you that made me smile just a little bit?
I think that's everything for now. Hope everyone in the blogosphere has a good weekend!
Congrats on the job, girl! New jobs always seem overwhelming at first, but you'll get the hang of it (and Excel) in no time at all. Yay for your movie date! Hope you have a fun time - you well deserve it after your long week!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your job and shyboy. I can't help you much with Excel:p
ReplyDeleteI hope the job picks up a bit! I know that lots of information can be quite confusing at times, but I know you'll do great!
ReplyDeleteHAHA! I laughed at "Needless to say the Paperclip Helper has become my new best friend. "
Who knew computer animations could be so helpful! ;)
Aww shyboy! That's so cute of him to pick of the tickets! You need to like, get a twitter or blog about it ASAP!! I cannot wait to hear how it goes! Enjoy the movie, Ella!
:)
WOW! Congratulations on your first week at work, Ella! You're doing great, and it's ALWAYS hard at the beginning, so everything is perfectly normal : ) Yeah, Excel has a "double face": it looks innocent and easy (going) but can be complicated and mean sometimes : )
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the film with Shy Boy and let us know everything about this date : ) You're right, he's making a lot of progress : )
And then, relax (don't exaggerate with the Excel thing) and have a nice weekend!
Believe me, that paperclip helper will come in handy, but once you get the hang of it, you'll dump him faster than you open him up now!
ReplyDeleteAnd have fun at the movies with ShyBoy!!
Congratulations on your new job, it sounds like a really wonderful opportunity! Excel is complicated!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great time on your date with Shy Boy!
Congratulations on your first full time week!!!
ReplyDeleteI had a feeling you smiled when he sent you that message! Wouldn't anyone? ;) Im glad you're happy about your work that's very important! and Im even happier about Shyboy!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a successful first week on the job! You will figure out Excel in no time, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteAhhh when I first read that he backed out of the mall I was like... "loser! lame excuse!" but then he came around so maybe it wasn't just an excuse :) Go shy boy!! I hope the movie was great-- definitely want to see that one!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I had to learn a new software for work I scoured YouTube for help videos. They were nice because a lot of them were screen videos that let you see what people were clicking!! Might be good over the weekend if you can find any :) Hope you and the paperclip helper had a great weeekend! Congrats on your first week!
